In 1999 Frank Mitolo and winemaker Ben Glaetzer, jotting a six word business plan on a napkin, fashioned a dream to make the ultimate expression of McLaren Vale's rich soils. Mitolo's first wines were made in 2000.
Mitolo has partnered with the Lopresti family for their fruit since the beginning. Between Gulf St Vincent and the Willunga Hills, the Lopresti vineyards offer great depth of flavour from their heavy clay soils, yet freshness thanks to afternoon sea breezes. Over time, plantings of Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache have been joined by plantings of Italian varietals. Ben Glaetzer's hands off approach in the winery creates the signature Mitolo style.
Mitolo's offering is led by the Marsican Shiraz, which showcases pure varietal flavour. Next in the hierarchy are the Classic and Small Batch ranges, followed by the affordable Jester wines.
